Balloon-Popping Bruce Strikes Again

Picture
We won't be surprised if Bruce isn't allowed back to teach scripture at Pendle Hill Primary! A fortnight ago he rocked up to his normal class, issued a polite smile to the teachers, and stood infront of 18 Year Four kids.

He held a bunch of balloons and a box of matches. The teachers frowned. They watched warily. They knew the what Bruce could get up to in these lessons!

But all was going fine and what's more it was a great lesson! Why the strange props? They were used to demonstrate how powerful it is to have God in our lives.

Bruce blew up a red balloon and tied it. He talked about how without God inside us, we are all just empty and full of air, and when the tough times in life come along- it's hard to get through them. We can't easily stand up against the pressure. To demonstrate- a match was lit. It was held under the inflated red balloon. The balloon popped.

BUT with God in our lives, anything is possible. Those troubles that life inevitably throws our way aren't unbearable. It's not as easy for us to "explode" when God lives within us. Bruce filled a pink balloon this time. But with water this time, not air. And held above the flame, it didn't burst!

The audience gasped! They applauded! And unfortunately Bruce got one more idea... He'd read about it on Google... "Kids, I reckon that this water-filled balloon wouldn't even pop if I stuck a toothpick in it!"

Dead silence.

"Tommy, please step forward". Tommy did as he was told. The balloon was held above the nervous boy's head. Not a whisper was heard. The toothpick was raised. The move was made and

                    *BANG!!!!*

Google was wrong. Tommy was wet. The teachers frowned. And as water dripped off Tommy's grinning chin, the kids erupted into hoots of laughter and applause.

"See you next week, kids", said Bruce.
